Biography
Fern Wood...aka Mitch, was born in California but grew up all across the country, and finally settled in New York in 1962. Mitch is a graduate of the New York School of Interior Design, where he continues to give painting demonstrations. Until recently, Mitch enjoyed a career as a designer of printed fabrics and wallpaper for most of the up-scale fabric companies in New York and around the country.

Artist's Statement
During my years as a fabric designer, I was noted as an excellent painter of very traditional designs. The irony was that I longed to paint in a contemporary, abstract manner,more like Robert Motherwell,or Mark Rothko, with the colors of David Hockney.
When I began to Scuba dive,and to use a camera underwater,I realized that all the wonderfully abstract, wildly colored subjects I would ever want exist underwater, and this would be my chance to finally create the abstract fantasy patterns that I have always wanted to paint.
